Published Work

A lot of Veronica's work has been performed and seen rather than published!

Poetry

Veronica is delighted to have her first collection of poems published by Fisherrow Press.

In "Two Left Boots" you'll find her natural funny, touching and instinctive style.  The subjects of her poems range from hair to heaven, love to libraries in a variety of forms and an easy, open style.

Reviews from the poetry world in so far:

Carole Bromley:
Lively, varied, tender, humorous, full of affection yet never sentimental, these are poems to read over and over. I loved the nature poems, those dealing with friendship, illness and love. My favourite was the wonderfully wry 'Ladies of the Committee' which made me laugh out loud.

Ann Pilling:
Whichever subject she chooses, Veronica brings to it the same warmth and directness...There is much vivid and precise observation about the natural world, there is humour and there is quiet...much to enjoy and to ponder, in these carefully wrought, yet always accessible poems - love, loss, landscape, laughter – what more can we ask?

Jean Stevens:
Veronica shows how well she can handle the humorous...[with] poems to which everyone will relate...[she] uses down-to-earth language when writing about painful experiences...This pamphlet packs a great deal into a small space.    Jean Stevens

And from 'ordinary' readers

I took your book with me to bed and read from cover to cover! It's brought tears to my eyes, made me laugh in parts, lifted my heart in others. It's a book to treasure.    BH

Lippy Logic

Veronica is half of the Lippy Logic comedy-drama duo. In the absence of good material for ladies of a certain age to perform, Lippy Logic just sit down and produce their own.

Her long suffering partner Christine Hooley puts up with Veronica's enthusiasm for epic sketches in which there are lots of laughs, a few tears and some shouty bits too. Together they produce and perform much awaited and critically acclaimed shows - see lippylogic.co.uk for more.

In 2012 Veronica wrote "The Birthday Wish" for Christine to perform. It was designed to show the pair's accomplishments in tackling difficult issues such as growing older in the age of social networking and i-technology, along with the heartbreak of dealing with dementia.
It is available on CD with Veronica reading some of her poems too - please contact us for details.

Playwright

As well as her work as Lippy Logic, Veronica has written and produced numerous one and two act plays and monologues.

In conjunction with Blackpool Council she was artist in residence for a major project to bring alive the town's rich heritage for its primary school children. She produced a photographic archive and wrote a series of monologues covering the experiences of five generations of a family. This two year endeavour resulted in a valuable resource library for teachers and arts workers.

Original comedies co-written with husband Richard have amused people for several years through the Austwick Community Players. It all started in 2012 with The Olympics being moved to North Yorkshire from London when the Thames burst its banks, and the world was treated to good old fashioned traditional Dales games like Synchronised Sheep Shearing! Then came the story of when The Romans set up camp in Austwickia; the time when Austwick and Lawkland's postcode got the parishes involved with the Scottish referendum amid an oil rush; locals getting their own back on a wicked conniving Banker; and in 2016, a romp through the sixties when flower power, a mystic guru and the new University of Austwick landed centre stage.

This year's play is a tightly kept secret until February, but the cast and crew are delighted they'll be heading (theatrically speaking) to The South Seas to escape the Yorkshire Winter... Watch this Space for more!

Photographer

For over 20 years, Veronica has been a professional photographer working with clients in commercial, industrial, local government, leisure and national scenic areas.

True to her communicative instincts, she has had a number of exhibitions of her documentary work: A Year in the Life of a Village (Edgmond Shropshire); Signs of the Times, shown at the Hereford Photo-Festival and elsewhere; An Hour at the Edinburgh Fringe, shown at the Edinburgh Fringe and around the UK

In 2007 Veronica went to South Africa and Mozambique to document the work of Hands at Work in Africa, a charity tackling HIV/AIDS in sub-saharan Africa. Her resulting work was exhibited at The Houses of Parliament, the Edinburgh Fringe and around the UK.
